We empower parents with the knowledge of English phonetics and rules so they can confidently teach their children to read. Parents will no longer be at the mercy of the education system when it comes to making sure their children are successful readers.
At Codebreaker Academy, our approach to English literacy is simple and straightforward – written language is a code, generated from the spoken language. In order to learn to read and write (code and decode), we have to learn how written language matches what we say and the rules that are in place to keep the written language consistent.
Reading and Writing Are the Most Important Skills
Reading is the most important and probably the most used skill we learn in our lives. Once we learn to read, we use it everyday of our conscious life - anytime we see a word, our brain instantly translates that code into ideas and information for us to use. At first we have to think about it, especially when we encounter a new word but soon our brain becomes so good at decoding it becomes an instant and automatic process.
Writing is equally important, though it takes more effort than simply reading. We communicate our thoughts and ideas through the writing process. Civilizations are advanced by being able to record and preserve knowledge for future generations. Families’ histories stay rich and alive by those who take the time to write the stories of their lives for their children and grandchildren.
The English Code Can Be Mastered
The automatic process we experience as literate adults makes it seem like it happens effortlessly but reading (coding and decoding) is not always an easy skill to master. The reality is reading and writing are learned skills that need to be practiced and mastered. Some people learn so fast at such a young age it seems as though they have ‘always known’ how to read. Others struggle for a long time before their brain puts all of the pieces together but most people can learn to read if they are taught to code English not just memorize it.
The English code is complex but not impossible to learn. It does however, need to be carefully and systematically taught to make sure everyone has the opportunity to be successful - starting with the whole English Phonetic Code supported by The Coding Rules that are learned through application and make sense anyone can learn to decode (read) and code (write) English.
Many people learn to read fluently long before they begin to spell and write. Learning to decode (reading) is easier than coding (writing) because someone else has already written the code for you. Just like using a computer program is much easier than coding it; reading a story is easier than writing one. Reading provides wonderful opportunities of learning and adventure but don’t stop there - write and share your thoughts and ideas.
Our mission is to empower people everywhere with the knowledge of the English code so they can teach anyone, anywhere to read and write English.
At Codebreaker Academy, we teach people English.
